Seaside Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Academy sent one instructor and one student to the 10th Annual Saulo Riberio tournament in Toledo, Ohio, Oct. 4. Local Instructor Zach Adamson ended up taking the Gold Medal in the Light Weight Purple Belt Division, while Seaside native and SBJJ student Shiloh Roberts claimed Gold Medals in both the Heavy Weight Category and the Absolute Category.

"We are very proud of what we accomplished out there in Ohio. We trained and prepared very hard for this tournament and set a goal to come back with Gold Medals," said Adamson.

Instructor, American Black Belt Rafael Lovato Jr. ('07 World Champion) led to the Oct. 4 success, said Adamson.

Seaside Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Academy hosts seminars with Lovato twice a year, the next is at 11 a.m. Saturday.

"Anyone interested should stop in and check out this world-class seminar and our newly remodeled location," said Adamson. The academy is at 1601 S. Roosevelt, U.S. Highway 101.

SBJJ will host the first Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Youth Retreat in late November, which it plans to make an annual event. It will be free to all youths in the area ages 6 to 12. For information, see: ( or call the academy at (503) 738-4080.
