A Ford Taurus caught fire Monday afternoon on U.S. Highway 30 near Gnat Creek and Clifton, causing the highway to close for nearly an hour.

The car became fully engulfed in flames at about 1 p.m., according to the Astoria Police Department. The occupants escaped the vehicle and no injuries were reported.

Crews with the Knappa Fire Department, Oregon Department of Forestry, Oregon State Police and the Astoria Police Department responded to the scene. Crews spent about an hour containing the fire, while the roadway remained closed.

Highway 30 reopened to traffic later Monday afternoon.

The cause of the car fire has yet to be determined, Astoria Police said.
