Attendance at the Clatsop County Fair last week was down by more than 1,000 people compared to last year.

“I think the heat affected attendance,” said Kathi Mattinen, the fair’s manager.

During the heat wave, Astoria saw temperatures of more than 90 degrees.

The total attendance, excluding 4-H, was 12,605, compared to 13,964 last year.

The carnival income was also lower this year, at $17,891, down from $21,006 last year.
