Mellin decides to withdraw from council race

City Councilwoman Karen Mellin has withdrawn her name from the Astoria City Council race.

Citing personal family reasons that may soon bring her out of the country for an extended period of time, Mellin will not seek re-election for a second term.

Mellin has served Ward 3 for nearly four years.

“I feel satisfied that I have done my civic duty,” Mellin said. “I’m ready to pass the baton to someone else.”

Mellin, who previously served on the Clatsop Community College board, was encouraged to run for the seat by District Attorney Josh Marquis.

Last week, Marquis’ wife Cindy Price filed to challenge Mellin in the election for the same seat.

Astorian Marco Davis has also filed for the Ward 3 seat.
