The Clatsop County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the death of a man who was found near U.S. Highway 30 about four miles east of Astoria Friday afternoon.

The man was identified as Howard Daniel Vinge, 71, of Newport. His death is considered to be suspicious in nature. The Sheriff’s Office is asking the public for assistance in finding anyone who was in contact with Vinge within the past month, especially anyone traveling with him.

Also of interest are Vinge’s vehicles: a white 1993 Allegro Bay motor home with Oregon license plate HC33885 or a dark maroon 1991 Lincoln Continental with Oregon license plate 045FVN.

Vinge was last seen at his Agate Beach area home in mid-September. His two vehicles are known to have been in Astoria as late as Sept. 24.

Anyone with information is asked to contact local law enforcement or Sheriff’s Office Detective Ryan Humphrey at 503-325-2061 or rhumphrey@co.clatsop.or.us.
