Jessica Smith was arraigned and pleaded not guilty today to an indictment accusing her of the aggravated murder and attempted aggravated murder of her two daughters.
A bail hearing was set for 2 p.m. Sept. 30. The case was officially designated as “complex,” a distinction that expedites the exchange of discovery and other documents between the defense and prosecutors.
Defense attorney William David Falls said in court, that with the publicity surrounding the case, he is concerned about whether the venue might have to be changed in the future.
“I may have to ask the court for an order at some point in time that limits the information that’s being distributed, if I feel like it’s going to continue, and we’re going to have problems selecting a jury,” said Falls.
