Wauna Federal Credit Union celebrated its 46th Annual Meeting with more than 100 members during the afternoon of March 16 at the new Vernonia Schools building. During the business meeting, CEO and President Robert Blumberg and George Dunkel, chairman of the board of directors, reported the state of the credit union as of the end of 2012.

Blumberg reported total assets grew by 10.3 percent to $152.2 million; total loans increased 3.06 percent to $118.3 million; total deposits rose by 8.39 percent to $135.1 million; the capital ratio increased to 8.62 percent (of total assets); and total membership grew by nearly 1,000 to 16,324.

Blumberg concluded his report by expressing appreciation to the volunteer board and supervisory committee, and to the staff, for their dedication and hard work during the local and national economic challenges. He also addressed developments for the credit union, including the May 2013 opening of the new Warrenton branch, the summer groundbreaking for a new St. Helens branch, and the conversion to a more powerful core processor in the fall of 2013 to support the rapid growth of new members.

Dunkel extended appreciation to the volunteer board for their efforts, commitment and vision to help support the growth and success of the credit union. He also reinforced to the membership the importance of immediately contacting their state representatives to vote “no” against current megabank-sponsored legislation to change the way Oregon credit unions operate.

Results from the annual election by the membership for the board of directors included the reelection of incumbents Erlene Darby of Clatskanie, George Dunkel of Scappoose and Don McDaniel of Astoria to three-year terms each. At a later meeting of the board of directors, they elected Dunkel as chairman, Paul Lewicki of Astoria as 1st vice chairman, Lester Kahr of Clatskanie as 2nd vice chairman, McDaniel as finance officer and Bill DeJager of Vernonia as secretary. Additional members of the board of directors include Julie Gassner of Astoria, Debbie Huffman of Astoria and Philip Lager of Warrenton.

At the conclusion of the business meeting numerous prizes were awarded to the attending membership, including a $500 grand prize to Melody Dufner of Warrenton.

Wauna Federal Credit Union is headquartered in Clatskanie, employs more than 70 people, has total assets surpassing $150 million and serves nearly 17,000 members. Branches are located in Astoria, Clatskanie, St. Helens, Scappoose, Vernonia and Warrenton.
