Ilwaco Postmaster takes hometown positionLONG BEACH, Wash. - Karen Harrel, a Long Beach native, is the new Long Beach Postmaster.

Harrel started her career with the Postal Service as a clerk in Long Beach 26 years ago and was later promoted to be an officer in charge. In August 2002, she was promoted to Postmaster of Ilwaco. She hosted a First Day of Issue ceremony for the Lewis and Clark Bicentennial stamp at Cape Disappointment State Park in May.

Harrel said that she looks forward to getting involved in her hometown again. "I'm very excited to be given the opportunity to serve as the new Postmaster of Long Beach," Harrel said.

During her time in Long Beach, Harrel has been active in the community in youth sports and as a volunteer firefighter and emergency medical technician. She is married with two sons in college.
