Closure is set to begin at 11 p.m. on Friday

The first of two weekend-long closures of the Lewis and Clark Bridge at Longview, Wash. is scheduled to begin Friday.

The bridge will be closed to all traffic between 11 p.m. Friday and 5:30 a.m. Monday as the rehabilitation project by the Washington State Department of Transportation winds up.

Another weekend closure is scheduled for Friday-Monday, April 23-25.

Nighttime closures of the bridge are scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday nights this week, beginning at 9:30 p.m. and ending at 5:30 a.m. each night.

WSDOT warns that during hours when the bridge is open, driving may be especially bumpy as crews install two-inch steel bars at each of the 25 joints on the Oregon and Washington sides of the bridge. Small ramps will be placed on each side of the bars to lessen the impact on vehicles crossing the bridge.

The steel bars are designed to help in pouring cement for the new driving surface, and to strengthen the spaces between the joints.
