GEARHART — For more than 10 years, the Lunch Buddy/Mentoring program has worked to provide Clatsop County elementary students with a backpack and starter supplies to ensure students get off to a great start for the school year.

Costco in Warrenton has been instrumental in helping meet that need with an annual donation of backpacks. However, the need and costs to provide backpacks and supplies continues to rise.

This year Clatsop County citizens and businesses are being offered an opportunity to help provide every student in kindergarten through second grade with a new backpack, complete with needed school supplies through the Adopt a Backpack program.

A $10 donation covers the cost of a stocked backpack for one Clatsop County student. Donations can be mailed to Lunch Buddy Mentoring Program, P.O. Box 2611, Gearhart, OR 97138, and donation forms can be found on the Lunch Buddy Mentoring Program Facebook page. Donations are tax deductible and help children reach their full potential through success in school.
