What would you like readers to know about the Bargain Barn?
"This is a completely new business. We purchased the inventory from John's Bargain Barn. We officially opened October 1."
What kind of changes will be taking place?
"We will have a new line of used appliances. We will feature more glassware. We just bought over 20,000 pieces of small, antique and contemporary crystal. We will have everything that is glass, including saucers and teacups. We are also buying estates."
How would you describe the current inventory?
"It is a huge mixture of new and used good quality furniture. We have bunk-beds, hutches and cabinets as well as appliances. Our inventory will change weekly but we will continue to offer the same type of merchandise"
How did you get started in this type of business?
"I started with my father in Montana. I owned a second hand business for eight years and have been in this line of work for 15 years. This is all I have done."
What can you tell us about the volume of business you do?
"In our first two months of business, we moved 400 to 500 pieces of furniture each month."
Tell us about your staff.
"Kat Bremmer has lived here in Astoria since 1987 and is very friendly. Jamie Brown and Charles Evans are our delivery drivers."
What do you enjoy about this kind of business?
"I love meeting the different people who shop here. There are lots of local people as well as visitors off the cruise ships and other tourists."
