Mothers Against Misuse and Abuse (MAMA) will present its "Tour 2010: Prohibition Has Failed/It's Time for Change," at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Astoria Public Library Flag Room, 450 10th St. Among the topics covered will be the efficacy of marijuana prohibition, the Oregon Medical Marijuana Program and other drug policy issues. There is no charge for this event.

Speakers will be Alice Ivany and Howard Wooldridge. Ivany will discuss her experiences as an Oregon medical marijuana patient for nine years; Wooldridge, a law enforcement officer for 18 years, now retired, will share his perspective about prohibition and its impact on society.

In Oregon, more than 36,000 patients are now registered in the Oregon Medical Marijuana Program. California is prepared to vote on legalizing cannabis for adults, and 15 states have medical marijuana laws.

Since 1982, MAMA has been dedicated to reducing the harm from all drug use and from drug policy. MAMA's approach is based on personal responsibility and informed decision-making, with respect for human dignity. For information, go to (
