Astoria man allegedly lured girls on InternetWilliam H. Davis II, 50, of Astoria is in jail on sex charges, after allegedly arranging a meeting with a 15-year-old Clatsop County girl he met on the Internet, then sexually abusing her, the Clatsop County Sheriff's Office reported today.

Detectives allege Davis also attempted to lure another girl, whom he believed to be 14-years-old, to meet with him for sex.

Davis was arrested Friday after CCSO personnel, assisted by Oregon State Police and the Astoria Police Department, served a search warrant on Davis' residence at 35086 Fourth Lane, and on his vehicle. He was charged with second-degree kidnapping, and rape, sodomy, and sexual abuse, all in the third degree, and lodged at Clatsop County Jail.

Detectives said Davis used the screen name mtnman2_99. Anyone whose child might have corresponded with Davis on the internet is asked to contact Det. Kristen Hanthorn at the Sheriff's Office at 325-8635.

Use of the internet to entice, invite or persuade a child to meet for sexual acts, or helping to arrange such a meeting, is a federal offense. Anyone with information about online enticement of minors is asked to contact the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children's CyberTipline at (www.missingkids.com) or (800) 843-5678.
