April is Sexual Assault Awareness month. The Domestic/Sexual Violence Council invites men to participate in “A Walk In My Shoes,” a walk in women’s shoes, to honor survivors of sexual assault from 4 to 5 p.m. April 24.

Walkers will start at the Clatsop County Courthouse stairs on Commercial Street, and will proceed east on Commercial Street on the sidewalk toward 14th Street. The event will end at the Women’s Resource Center thrift store, Déjà Vu, at 1389 Duane St., where there will be speakers and a reception.

A nationwide effort, this walk helps a community understand the hard road of healing sexual assault survivors face after being attacked. Law enforcement officers, members of the district attorney’s office and other community members will walk in honor of local survivors. All donations from the reception will benefit the efforts of the D/SVC to prevent domestic and sexual violence in Clatsop County.

For information, or help in locating women’s shoes for the walk, call the Women’s Resource Center at 503-324-3426.
