CLATSKANIE - The Great Vow Zen Monastery in Clatskanie will hold a "Speaking Freely" retreat, led by Daitetsu Hull and LaShelle Yoan Charde, from 5 p.m. May 21 to 1 p.m. May 23. During this retreat, authentic speech, and what makes it difficult, will be investigated. Participants will learn how to speak truth with skill. Some of the skills that will be taught and practiced include: speaking from core values; empathetic listening; skillful interrupting; how to speak when triggered; how to ask for support; and how to give and receive appreciation. The retreat will include teachings from Zen Buddhism, as well as from Marshal Rosenberg's Non Violent Communication and Hal and Sidra Stone's Voice Dialogue.

The cost is $150 plus donation, $120 for Zen Community of Oregon/Dharma Rain Zen Center members or $75 for students, and includes dormitory accommodations and all vegetarian meals.
