KNAPPA - Johnny Clay Moore, 54, of Tacoma, Wash., was killed at 3:03 p.m. Sunday afternoon when his 2003 Harley-Davidson motorcycle veered across the center line of U.S. Highway 30 and struck a guard rail, three miles east of Knappa.
His wife, Karen Moore, 53, was injured in the crash. According to Oregon State Police, Johnny Moore was headed toward Astoria when the accident happened.
The motorcycle traveled 600 feet against the the guard rail, bouncing several times before the occupants were thrown off.
Johnny Moore was pronounced dead at the scene. Karen Moore was taken to Columbia Memorial Hospital by ambulance then airlifted to Legacy Emanuel Hospital in Portland. She was listed in serious condition today.
The highway was dry and the weather was sunny, police say, and speed and alcohol apparently did not play a role in the crash. The cause of the accident is under investigation with the assistance of an Oregon State Police accident reconstruction technician.
Personnel from the Clatsop County Sheriff's Office, the Oregon Department of Transportation, Medix Ambulance and the Knappa Svensen Fire Department assisted state police.
