Motorists are asked to avoid the intersection of Sixth Street and Nehalem Avenue, where work begins Monday on the city of Astoria's Combine Sewer Overflow (CSO) Project.

The city's contractor for the project is Big River Excavating. Work will continue all week, through Jan. 7, proceeding eastward to Seventh Street, then down the west side of Seventh Street from Nehalem Avenue toward Niagara Avenue. Crews will be installing an 18-inch diameter storm pipe on the west side of Seventh Street.

Traffic delays and minor road closures will occur and motorists are asked to use alternate routes where possible.

All schedules are subject to change because of weather. For more information, call Astoria Public Works at 338-5173.
