May is National Mental Health month. The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) Clatsop County hosts its first fundraising NAMI Walk at 2 p.m. Sunday on the Astoria Riverwalk at the Columbia River Maritime Museum, walking to 11th Street and back to the museum.

NAMI Walks are held all over the country to raise funds to keep NAMI programs free to all who need them, and to reduce the fear and shame of asking for help. NAMI Clatsop Inc., a 501(c)3 organization, provides informal family-to-family assistance and a support group to those families dealing with the confusion, anger and fear of mental illness.

To join the Clatsop Chums NAMI Walk team, or to donate online, go to http://tinyurl.com/clatsopchums. Checks may also be mailed to NAMI Clatsop Inc., P.O. Box 464, Warrenton, OR 97146.
