ROCKAWAY BEACH - The Neah-Kah-Nie Speech and Debate Team is hosting the 12th annual NKN Oktoberfest Speech Tournament Oct. 27. Ten to 15 schools will bring teams to compete in speaking events in NKN classrooms throughout the day, ranging from theatrical interpretations to impromptu speaking to debating.

Coach Holly Lorincz needs volunteers to judge the event. Experience is not necessary. The judges will not judge every hour. It is recommended that judges bring a book or watch other rounds for enjoyment.

Unfortunately, judging assignments can not be pre-assigned. Judges will be asked to report to the library, attend a short orientation at 7:30 a.m., and then to judge from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

The tournament relies heavily on community support, with booster and speech team parents supplying food for students and adult judges throughout the day.

Anyone interested in helping out by volunteering to judge should contact Lorincz at (503) 355-2272, ext. 1290, or e-mail her at (hollyl@neahkahnie.k12.or.us)
