SEASIDE - A Clatsop County Neighborhood Watch meeting will be held at 5:30 p.m. Thursday at the Bob Chisholm Community Center, 1225 Avenue A in Seaside. The public is welcome, and encouraged to attend.

Being aware of surroundings and paying attention to what happens in a neighborhood is an important part of neighborhood safety. Neighborhood Watch is a joint effort between local law enforcement and the community designed to instill a greater sense of security and reduce the fear of crime.

The program teaches participants how to make their home and neighborhood more secure in order to reduce the risk of being victimized, as well as training citizens on how to recognize and report any suspicious activity. Neighborhood Watch also allows neighbors to get to know each other and their routines in order to address issues that concern the safety of the entire community.

To learn how to start a Neighborhood Watch group, call the Seaside Police Department at (503) 738-6311, or State Farm Insurance at (503) 861-3276.
