An Eagle Court of Honor was held Aug. 8 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to honor Nathan Levi Nerenberg of Astoria Boy Scout Troop 628. Nerenberg earned 25 merit badges and performed his Eagle service project by organizing a cleanup of Greenwood Cemetery, including power washing monuments, removing overgrown trees and dead shrubs and planting flowers.

Past Scoutmaster Alan McMakin conducted the ceremony, and longtime scouter Frank Van Winkle presented Nerenberg with the Eagle Scout award on behalf of the National Scout Office. Past Scoutmaster Bill Allen gave the Eagle Scout Challenge.

Nerenberg is the son of Bill and Jan Nerenberg of Astoria and the grandson of longtime Astoria residents Joe and Mary Nerenberg. He is a graduate of Astoria High School and will soon leave to serve as a missionary for two years.
