The public is welcome to attend a groundbreaking ceremony for Englund Marine's new facility on Port of Astoria property. The ceremony will take place at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Hamburg Street, slightly south of Pier 3. Parking is available.

The 40,000 square-foot marine services and supplies facility will combine another Astoria-based business owned by the company, Fisher Brothers Industrial, with Englund Marine. In addition to offering commercial and recreational marine supplies, services will include a rigging shop. The company hopes to open the new facility by the end of this year.

Kurt Englund, vice president, Englund Marine, is excited to see construction begin on this large-scale project.

"It's been in the works for a long time, so getting started feels great," he said.

Englund feels the new facility will benefit to its customers. "We believe the consolidation and expansion of our business will enhance our ability to service our commercial and recreational boating customers," he said.

Port representatives are pleased to see construction begin on this project.

"It's exciting to see one more element of the Port's Waterfront Master Plan come to life," said Larry Pfund, president of the Port of Astoria Commission.
