If the owners of Salt and Paper, Manzanita's newest retail business, don't carry it, they'll order it.

Stephanie Simpson and Dietmar Krueger, who opened the stationery store in May, have stocked their shelves and display racks and cases with greeting cards, Crane stationery, journals, scrapbooks, legal forms, art supplies, office supplies and miscellaneous gifts.

While their inventory is comprehensive, they will keep a wholesale office supply catalog on hand, and send away for requested items they don't have in stock, said Simpson.

"The office supplies we have here won't be all we'll have. If there's something a customer would like us to carry, let us know."

Special orders will arrive in a few days, "and customers won't pay more than they would at Office Depot," said Krueger.

They decided to open a stationery store after realizing "a lot of the things we sell here were things we were driving 45 minutes to get," said Simpson.

"We wanted to create a store the locals would benefit from and that would be interesting to tourists," said Simpson. "We also want to operate business-to-business."

After opening for a "sneak preview" on May 11, Simpson and Krueger will host a grand opening on May 13.

Salt and Paper is located at 411 Laneda Ave., Manzanita. For more information, call (503) 368-4155.
