Holly Barker, M.D., general surgeon, has joined the staff at Providence Medical Group-Seaside and is accepting new patients.

From a young age, Barker knew what she wanted to be when she grew up: At the age of 2, she announced to her mother that she was going to be a doctor.

At 8 years old, Barker participated in a medical mentorship program and watched a video of open-heart surgery. From that day on, Barker knew she wanted to specialize in surgery.

Barker received her medical degree at Wake Forest School of Medicine in Winston-Salem, N.C., and completed her residency at Wayne State University School of Medicine, Detroit Medical Center.

Her residency was followed by a fellowship in minimally invasive surgery at the Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University in Providence, R.I.

“Surgery can be scary for patients,” Barker said. “I try to approach every patient the way I would my own family: gently, confidently and with thorough explanations to erase as many question marks as possible.”

When not practicing medicine, Barker enjoys kayaking, reading, traveling and hiking with her dogs.

Providence Medical Group-Seaside is on the campus of Providence Seaside Hospital, 725 S. Wahanna Road. To contact the clinic, call 503-717-7556.
