The Daily Astorian’s editorial page will be enriched by 10 new writers. The newspaper’s Board of Contributors include an Astoria certified nurse midwife, a retired defense contractor, a Unitarian minister, Astoria and Seaside high school students and five others.

“Our region brims with intellect and writing talent, and that’s why we are excited to have these writers join our editorial page,” said Astorian Editor and Publisher Steve Forrester.

The Board of Contributors includes Ed Hunt, Denise Reed, Jim Wilkins, Jorge Gutierrez, Kit Ketcham, Gary Mauro and Jeff Jacques.

Two North Coast students will be featured. They are Seaside High School’s Yasmine Morris and Astoria High School student Nikolas Kalar.

Board articles will appear on the last Friday of every month in the position that is normally filled by Editor’s Notebook. Their work will be labeled Writer’s Notebook. The Editor’s Notebook is mainly the work of Forrester and Chinook Observer Publisher Matt Winters, with quarterly contributions from Astorian Managing Editor Patrick Webb and Deputy Managing Editor Sue Cody.”

“We were delighted at the enthusiasm for local writers stepping forward to join the board, and know readers will embrace the variety of viewpoints,” said Webb.

The first Writer’s Notebook, written by Sue Skinner, will appear Sept. 27.
