James Frederick "Jim" Sibley, 58, of Seaside, died Friday, March 19, 2010, at home.

He was born Dec. 15, 1951, in Jamestown, N. D., to Frederick Franklin Sibley and Lois Thoe.

Mr. Sibley has lived in the Clatsop County area since June 1989. He owned and operated his own chimney sweep business, Chimney Cricket, for several years before his health problems stopped him from working. He became disabled five years ago.

He was a first responder for the Hamlet Fire Department.

Family members said he loved the outdoors and bow hunting elk and deer, fishing, hiking and clamming on the beach. He made artwork out of leather and on the blades of knives, but he never considered himself an artist.

He is survived by three daughters and a son-in-law, Cela A. Sibley of Seaside, Laura C. Sibley of McMinnville and R. Heather and Moses V. Gabuya of Springfield; a son, James J. Sibley of Seaside; a granddaughter, Caris R. Gabuya of Springfield; two brothers, Bob Rudel of Eddyville and Rick Sibley of Bismarck, N.D.; a stepmother, Marion Sibley of Williston, N.D.; and a former wife, Rosemarie Sibley, the mother of his children, of Gearhart.

A memorial and celebration of life will be announced at a later date.

Hughes-Ransom Cremation & Mortuaries in Seaside is in charge of the arrangements.
