The Northwest Center for Counselor Development will present a workshop, Ins & Outs of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD): Neurophysiology and its Impact on Self, Family and the Community, Oct. 28 at Clatsop Community College, Columbia Hall, Room 219. Registration and a continental breakfast are at 8 a.m.; the workshop is from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Dr. Bennett Garner, a psychiatrist, will present the role of the limbic system and associated structures in the production of dysfunction in people who have been traumatized and Vince Morrison, a licensed clinical social worker, will speak about the psychological impact of PTSD symptoms. The afternoon session will be the presentation of Trauma Triggers and Treatment Modalities, and will be interactive.
This workshop is appropriate for all professionals working with patients with PTSD: social workers, counselors, school counselors, therapists, psychiatrists, physicians, nurse practitioners, first responders and nurses. Six continuing education credits are available through the National Association of Social Workers.
