Logging accident

At 9:33 a.m. Thursday, the Elsie- Vinemaple Rural Fire Protection District responded to a medical emergency near State Highway 103 and Mullenbach Road where a man was struck by a felled tree in a logging accident.

Assault arrests

At 11:50 p.m. Thursday, Warrenton police received a report from a woman about an attempted assault on her 16-year-old female friend outside the Point Adams Packing Facility. Police later located Justin Lyle Norwood, 20, of 92848 Highway 202 in Astoria, and arrested him for fourth-degree assault, two counts of harassment and second-degree kidnapping for allegedly trying to take the victim from one place to another. He was booked at the Clatsop County Jail.

At 8:37 a.m. Saturday, Astoria police responded to the Hideaway Apartments, 443 14th St., where a disturbance had occurred the night before and arrested James Crage Garland, 21, of that address, for fourth-degree domestic assault, first-degree sex abuse and other charges. He was lodged at Clatsop County Jail.

DUII arrests

At 2:48 a.m. Thursday, Seaside police arrested Jessica Joy Desaro, 19, of 1226 King Salmon Place, Hammond, for driving under the influence of intoxicants, minor in possession and an unsignaled turn at 370 N. Columbia St., Seaside.

At 1:42 p.m. Saturday, Seaside police arrested Daniel Ray Borden, 45, of Gresham, for DUII and an open container at the intersection of U.S. Highway 101 and Underhill Road, Seaside.

At 2:54 a.m. Saturday, Seaside police arrested Donald Abraham Gardner, 26, of Shelton, Calif., for DUII at the intersection of South Lincoln Street and Broadway, Seaside.

At 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oregon State Police stopped Glen Alan Casebeer, 45, of Tacoma, Wash., on U.S. Highway 26 near the Sunset Summit for speeding at 90 mph in a 55 mph zone. The trooper determined that Casebeer was intoxicated. After refusing a breath test, Casebeer was taken to Clatsop County Jail, where he was charged with DUII, refusing a breath test, having an open container of alcohol in his minivan, violating the basic rule and driving without a license. He was cited and released.

At 2:46 a.m. Saturday, Astoria police arrested Walter Allen Carroll, address unknown, for DUII on Franklin Avenue at Seventh Street. He was cited and released at the county jail.

At 10:52 p.m. Saturday, Astoria police arrested Alejandro Escalante Franco, 28, address unknown, at Ninth and Commercial streets, for DUII and took him to jail.

At 2:33 a.m. Sunday, Astoria police arrested Martin Pamatz Garfia, 31, of 4025 Lenore Lane, Gearhart, for DUII on Marine Drive at Sixth Street and took him to jail.


At 10:18 p.m. Friday, Seaside police responded to a theft from a motor vehicle at 1631 Whispering Pines Drive, Seaside. An iPod, an iPod adapter, cash, a checkbook and a Social Security card, together valued at $420 were reported stolen. There was also $250 damage done to the vehicle.

Bicyclist injured

At 4:40 p.m. Friday, a 15-year old Astoria girl suffered minor injuries when she rode her bicycle into the path of a vehicle on West Marine Drive near Dairy Queen, Astoria police reported. Naomi Dowden was riding with several other children when the accident happened. She was treated and released at Columbia Memorial Hospital. The driver, Jesus Zermeno, of Astoria, was traveling about 15 mph, police said, but was unable to avoid hitting the girl. He was not cited.
