Traffic accidents? At 4:43 p.m. Friday, Oregon State Police responded to a crash on Lief Erikson Drive at 34th Street that sent two women to Columbia Memorial Hospital with unspecified injuries. The accident happened as Kasey Lin Ellis, 25, of Washington, was attempting to turn left onto Lief Erikson from the driveway of the Comfort Suites motel. There was a long line of traffic but another vehicle had made room for her to get out, OSP reported. Meanwhile, Dennis Mitchell Boardman, 50, of Idaho, was westbound in his Dodge Ram pickup in the special left turn lane preparing to turn. The pickup and the Ellis' 2007 Cadillac collided. Medix Ambulance Service took Ellis and her passenger, Laura Ashley Smith, 21, of Astoria, to CMH. Boardman was no injured and no citations were issued. The Astoria Fire Department, a Clatsop County Sheriff's deputy and personnel from the Oregon Department of Transportation assisted at the scene.

DUII arrest? At 1:13 a.m. Saturday, Oregon State Police responded to a two-vehicle crash on U.S. Highway 101 a few miles north of Gearhart. One of the drivers,Travis D. Cochran, 23, of Castle Rock, Wash., fled the scene and was later located and arrested for driving under the influence of intoxicants, fourth-degree assault, and felony failure to perform the duties of a driver. According to OSP, Cochran was driving his black 2006 Ford pickup without the lights on, heading south in the northbound lane, when he crashed into a 2008 Mazda sedan driven by Wendi Robinson, 36, of Warrenton. She said she didn't see the pickup in her lane until she noticed the big silver grille. She swerved to the right but was unable to avoid the crash. She and her passenger, Roman C. Martinez, 4, were not injured. A Clatsop County Sheriff's deputy saw a wet and muddy man walking along on Highway 101 at 6 a.m. Saturday and determined he was Cochran. OSP responded and arrested Cochran and took him to the county jail, where he refused both a field sobriety test and a breath test. A search warrant was obtained and a blood sample was taken and he was lodged at the jail.
