The Oregon Funeral Directors Association announced the election of Larry Peterson as vice president at their recent annual meeting held at the Salishan Resort in Gleneden Beach.

Mr. Peterson is a native of Astoria where he graduated from Astoria High School. After high school, he entered the U.S. Army and served for three years. Shortly after his tour of duty, he entered into funeral service, beginning with an apprenticeship at Hughes-Ransom Cremation & Mortuaries and attending Clatsop Community College. After securing his Associate of Arts Degree, Peterson entered Mt. Hood Community College, where he received a degree in mortuary sciences. Subsequently he returned to work for Hughes-Ransom Cremation & Mortuaries and in 2001 he purchased the company from its previous owners.

Peterson has been a member of the Seaside School Board for the last 25 years and currently serves as its chairman, a position he has held more than once. Additionally, he is president of the board for the Lower Columbia Hospice in Astoria, president of the Little Ballet Theater and is an active member of the Seaside Rotary Club, where he's acted as liaison to Seaside High School's annual senior class graduation party for the last 24 years.
