The Friends of the Seaside Library planning an evening with Peter Ames Carlin, author of "Paul McCartney: A Life," at their third Thursday visiting author event.

The reading will be April 15 at 7 p.m., in the library community room. It will include a question-and-answer session, book sales and signings, and refreshments.

Carlin, born in Syracuse, N.Y., was a freelance writer in Portland for many years before becoming a senior editor at "People" magazine in New York City. He has been a TV columnist for "The Oregonian" since 2000 and is the author of "Catch a Wave: The Rise and Fall of the Beach Boy's Brian Wilson."

Published in 2006, "Catch a Wave" was acclaimed by Wilson collaborator VanDyke Parks as "the essential Beach Boy's saga."

Carlin lives with his wife and three children in Portland.

His latest book, "Paul McCartney: A Life," is a fan-friendly biography of the former Beatle. It features interviews with many of McCartney's friends.

Seaside Public Library is at 1131 Broadway St., immediately across from the Sunset Empire Parks and Recreation District Youth Center and Swimming pool.
