Portland Mayor Sam Adams says the city is preparing for a big influx of protestors Thursday. The group Occupy Portland says it's planning a demonstration in solidarity with New York's Occupy Wall Street.

"Cities across the United States have had their own version of Occupy Wall Street. We're doing everything we can to make sure that we on the public side facilitate a peaceful event," Adams said.

Adams says city staff have attended Occupy Portland organizing meetings to, in his words, "offer help" to make sure the march and rally are as peaceful as possible. He said the protesters have "legitimate concerns about national events."

He recommends people check traffic pages or sign up for the city's text message alert system to stay informed about traffic disruptions or other news.
