SEASIDE - The city of Seaside Community Emergency Response Team is seeking new members for a 20-hour training that begins June 4. Orientation and the first class begin at 6:30 p.m. and will be held at the Seaside Fire Department, 150 S. Lincoln St. The other training dates are June 13, 20 and 27 from 8:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. each day.

Participants will learn how to be prepared for a community emergency or disaster and practical skills including: basic disaster preparedness, fire safety, emergency medical operations, and light search and rescue. Other units address disaster psychology and terrorism.

CERT members are part of the city's disaster plan during a large-scale disaster. Residents who live in or near the high ground assembly areas are encouraged to apply. During the practice evacuation drill on April 24, CERT members logged in people arriving at the evacuation areas. Knowing where people are will be vital to reuniting families and loved ones following a disaster.

Space is limited. To preregister, call Alice Kero Wood at (503) 338-0582.
