The Lower Columbia Preservation Society's seventh annual Garden Tour will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. July 14, and will feature seven gardens.
The gardens will include: a sheltered meditation and healing garden; a rose garden featuring more than 30 varieties of roses; a secluded pathway, defined by bamboo screens and paths; a garden of Japanese maples; two acres of pathways, planters and arbors, including a 100-year old redwood tree; a hillside garden featuring garden walls, paths, and a terrace; and a garden of crabapple trees, a specimen Hinoki cypress and Nandinas augmented by native plantings on a very steep slope. Wine and cheese will be served at the last garden.
Raffle tickets will be sold for $1 each or 15 for $10 on the day of the tour, or may be purchased in advance in the LCPS booth at the Sunday Market a few weeks prior to the tour.
The raffle grand prize is a night's lodging at the Banker's Suite in Astoria. Other prizes include a night's lodging at the Cannery Pier Hotel, The Holiday Inn Express, Hotel Elliott, Brita's Bed and Breakfast, Clementine's Bed and Breakfast, and the Rose River Inn.
A wine and cheese reception will be held on a deck overlooking the Columbia River from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. The drawing is at 2:30 p.m.; winners are not required to be present to win.
Tickets for the self-guided tour may be purchased at 690 17th St. from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. the day of the tour. Admission is $12 per person or $8 for LCPS members. Individuals who join that day will receive the tour rate of $8.
Membership costs $15 per year per person or $25 per household, and includes lectures and workshops, the newsletter "Restoria," and reminders and e-mails of preservation-related news and events.
Proceeds from the garden tour will be used to promote the organization's mission and its educational programs.
