CLATSKANIE - The community of Clatskanie will celebrate its connection with an author during the dedication of the Raymond Carver Memorial at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Clatskanie Library, 11 Lillich St.

The public ceremony will include the dedication of an original sculpture in the library's outdoor park on the banks of the Clatskanie River. The approximately 5-foot by 6-foot stainless steel and marble sculpture honoring Carver and bearing the title of one of his works, "Will You Please Be Quiet, Please?" was commissioned by the Friends of the Clatskanie Library and created by local artist Bob Davis.

Clatskanie is the birthplace of Carver, known for his ironic humor and incisive portrayals of ordinary people.

Keith McGillivary of Eugene, a Carver fan whose family roots are in Clatskanie, will serve as the keynote speaker. The event will feature a short reading from Carver's work. Members of Carver's family have been invited to attend. Refreshments will be served inside the library following the ceremony.
