Search and rescue teams were dispatched to Mt. Hood Tuesday morning after receiving a report of fallen climber in the area of Eliot Glacier.

The Hood River County Sheriff's Office says an eyewitness reported seeing the climber, who appeared to be alone, fall an estimated 1,000 feet before disappearing from view.

Officials say the identity of the missing climber is still unknown. The sheriff's office has dispatched a fixed wing search plane to assist with rescue efforts on the ground.
