Richard Edward Kendrick, 63, of Astoria and Fairview, died Saturday, Oct. 15, 2005, in Portland.

Mr. Kendrick was born Aug. 8, 1942 in Sacramento, Calif., to Melvin E. Kendrick and Betty Jean Weigle Rose. His mother survives and lives in Ione, Calif.

Mr. Kendrick began working as a truck driver when he was 18. He drove trucks in Sacramento, and moved to Astoria in 1998, where he continued to drive trucks.

He married Nelda Kendrick Oct. 11, 1961 in Carson City, Nev. She survives and lives in Fairview.

Family members said Mr. Kendrick will be remembered as a strong man who dearly loved his family. He enjoyed spending time with his kids and driving his truck.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by one daughter and fiance, Darla Kendrick and Scott Green of Warrenton; one son and daughter-in-law, Richard Jr. and Cassie Kendrick of Seaside; stepfather, Milton Rose of Ione; one sister, Kathleen Logan of Ione; four granddaughters, Ashley, Riki, Destinee and Cassidy Kendrick; one grandson, Kason Kendrick; one nephew, Robert Smith; and one niece, Lynette Logan.

A memorial will be held at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Caldwell's Luce-Layton Mortuary, 1165 Franklin Ave., Astoria.
