Wildfire 2013, a wildland fire training exercise, was held at Camp Rilea last weekend.

Astoria, Seaside, Lewis and Clark, Olney-Walluski, Gearhart, Cannon Beach and Warrenton partnered with other fire departments in the training.

A total of 105 firefighters participated, coming from Philomath, Multnomah County (Corbett), Clatskanie, the Oregon Military Department, the state Department of Forestry and the Oregon State Fire Marshal’s Office.

Clatsop County Firefighters Association, along with the Oregon Army National Guard and Camp Rilea sponsored the event.

Organizers said the purpose of the event was to further firefighting skills in a live wildland fire situation using an incident command system. This training fosters the cooperative working relationships between Clatsop County Emergency Services, local structural fire departments and Oregon Department of Forestry. It is one of two such events being held in Oregon.
