Tongue Point Job Corps in Astoria recently announced that Les Ryder has been hired to be the center's Deputy Director. He will assist the Center Director in planning and managing center operations.
Ryder was promoted from the position of Group Life Manager. He has worked at Tongue Point for 14 months.
In addition to his new role as Deputy Director, he will continue to manage the Group Life Department until a replacement is hired.
Center Director Nancy Pyburn said there was a very qualified pool from which to choose and it was a hard decision selecting the best candidate for the position. But Ryder had specific qualities that secured his promotion.
"What made Les stand out was his quiet confidence and his ability to see the big picture from different perspectives," said Pyburn.
