Warrenton - Warrenton Fire Department responded to Weyerhaeuser's Warrenton Sawmill, 550 N.E. Skipanon Drive, to put out a smoldering fire 12:49 p.m. Wednesday.

About an hour earlier, the mill's on-site suppression system had put our a fire in the planer room, Chief Ted Ames said. But he said a pipe that runs from the planer room to a machine that separates dust from chips had gotten plugged up, and the dust later ignited.

Firefighters and mill employees worked together for about five hours to completely extinguish the fire, which was very hard to reach. Ames said the mill, which employs over 150 people, was shut down during that time.

No one was injured. The cost of fire damage to the planer room has not been determined.
