SEASIDE - The Seaside School Board approved a long list of hires - some of them new - at a regular meeting Monday night.

A more generous state budget has allowed the school district to restore some positions cut in the past. A half-time elementary music teacher will again be full-time, and Gearhart Elementary School will have a full-time administrator next year.

Trevor Flaherty of West Linn was hired as assistant principal at Broadway Middle School, as Doug Pease leaves that position to become principal. Sheila Roley, now the middle school principal, will become principal of Seaside High School, where Principal Don Wickersham is retiring. His wife, Stephanie Wickersham, will also retire. Kevin Duncan will fill her spot teaching consumer studies and culinary arts.

In other business, the school board heard about projects at Broadway Middle School, including student art now on display at the Seaside Library and Portland International Airport, and an upcoming greenhouse being built at the school, Superintendent Doug Dougherty said today.
