SEASIDE - The fire department in Seaside had a busy weekend, responding to a fire at Bigfoot's Pub 'N Grub, helping a hiker with a seizure get off of Tillamook Head, and searching the Necanicum River for two people reported swimming there and only finding one.

The fire wasn't significant and there was only one person in the river, Fire Marshal Chris Dugan said, but the firefighters searched frantically along the banks for 45 minutes before that was confirmed.

At 9:58 p.m. Friday, the fire department received a call that there was a structure fire at Bigfoot's at 2427 S. Roosevelt Drive. It turned out to be an outdoor light that had shorted out and was producing a large amount of smoke.

"It was kind of exciting for about two minutes," Dugan laughed. The restaurant evacuated, but the smoke had stopped by the time the fire department arrived. The exterior of the building was a little scorched and had soot damage.

At 5:35 p.m. Saturday, the fire department responded to a male hiker a mile and a half up Tillamook Head who had had a seizure. Firefighters climbed up and stabilized the hiker before assisting the person to the ground.

At 11:52 p.m. Sunday, the firefighters bailed one woman out of the Necanicum and searched the river for another before discovering that the original report had been in error. Dugan said the woman had apparently decided to swim the river as a means of getting across. "I think she had some controlled substances on board," he said.
