SEASIDE — Seaside High School will host its Spring Academic Festival at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Seaside High School Gym. The festival is an opportunity for the public to see student projects from a number of departments at the school, including art, music, alternative energy, robot, business and writing projects.

The centerpiece of the event is the annual SHS Physics Class Rube Goldberg Machine Competition. Goldberg was a cartoonist and newspaper writer in the early 1900s who drew cartoons that showed elaborate machines that were as inefficient as possible, using a maximum number of moving parts to accomplish a simple task. This year’s goal at the festival is to build a Goldberg-style machine that will hammer a nail.
