SEASIDE - Bill Thomas wanted his American flag to fly one last time. So the Pearl Harbor survivor brought it with him to the Veterans Day ceremony at the Seaside Library, carefully wrapped in a plastic bag to protect it from the rain.

While the rumor was that the flag once flew over the U.S.S. Arizona, which sank in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, when the Japanese attacked on Dec. 7, 1941, Thomas said the National Parks Service had sent it to him when he requested a flag.
