SEASIDE - Got a few extra cans of food left over from the holidays?

Donate it to the Seaside Police Department's winter food drive.

The drive, which lasts through April 1, benefits the South County Food Bank. Non-perishable boxed and canned food may be dropped off in the barrel in the lobby of the Police Department, 1091 S. Holladay Drive. Food drop-off hours are 7 a.m. to 9 p.m.

"We realize that during the holidays the need is more evident, but we wanted to help ensure that people in the south county that are in need continue to get help now that Christmas is over," said Shelley Sakrisson, a Seaside Police records clerk who is in charge of the drive.

The South County Food Bank covers a large territory, from West Lake Lane south to Arch Cape and from the coastline to the county line. The food bank offers assistance to about 300 families a month.

The South County Food Bank is open from 2 to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday at 880 Avenue A in Seaside. It is closed the third Wednesday of each month for stocking. Donations of food and money may also be dropped off at the food bank during operating hours.
