SEASIDE - The Seaside Junior State baseball team returned to action after a week off and posted two wins over Clatskanie Tuesday at Broadway Field, 10-0 and 6-2.

The Gulls closed out the opener in five innings, as they broke open a scoreless game with six runs in the third, one in the fourth and three in the fifth.

That was plenty for starting pitcher Vito Cerelli, who allowed just two hits with six strikeouts.

Offensively, Seaside's Zack Nyberg belted a three-run home run, Jon Wickersham went 2-for-3 with a double and two runs scored, and Mark Budnick had an RBI double.

All 17 Seaside players saw action in Game 2, which the Gulls led 6-0 after two innings.

Daniel Terranova started on the mound, and gave way to Josh Emmerling in the fourth and Wickersham in the sixth. Emmerling picked up the victory.

Jeff Hinton had a triple and two RBIs at the plate, Bryan Robison was 2-for-2, and Wickersham was 2-for-3 and scored twice.

The Gulls play a doubleheader at Rainier Thursday.

All-Stars place second in SandyThe Lower Columbia Cal Ripken 10-year-old All-Stars took second place at the Sandy Tournament last weekend.

Lower Columbia defeated David Douglas 14-0 in the opener, then knocked off previously undefeated Sandy 9-1.

In the playoff round, the No. 1 seed All-Stars defeated Beaverton 10-0 to advance to the championship game, where they held a three-run lead on Sandy before losing, 6-4.

Lower Columbia pitchers Taylor Landwehr, Max Johnson, Dane Lund, Ian Erickson and Marcus Brown allowed just seven runs in the four games.

The Lower Columbia team will play an exhibition game against the Seaside 10-year-old All-Stars at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Columbia Field.
