SEASIDE — The Seaside High School Symphonic Band has earned another trip to Corvallis for the Oregon State Band Finals May 9. This is the seventh appearance in a row for the band as the Cowapa League winner. Last year the band’s second place finish was only a single point behind first place.

“The goal is to have a great performance of interesting music that our audience appreciates,” according to Band Director Terry Dahlgren.

“The music is quite challenging this year, with a number of technically difficult musical elements to pull off. Our slow piece even has a little bit of singing in it, which takes quite a bit of confidence to attempt. Just getting through our program successfully under pressure feels like an accomplishment.”

The band’s selections for the finals performance include: “The Victor March” by Karl L. King, “Sonus Venorum” by Claude T. Smith, “Our Yesterdays Lengthen Like Shadows” by Samuel Hazo, and “Arabian Dances” by Brian Balmages.
