Rainier Sign Company has put up a temporary sign letting people know it is on the way.

The two-person operation will be run by Steve and Deb Hov, who have a long history in the business, starting in 1970. The couple owned a large sign company in Portland, and sold it 12 years ago.

Two years ago, the Hovs decided to return to the Rainier area, where Steve Hov grew up. They operated Hov Sign Company as a home-based business.

"When we had our large sign company in Portland, we had about 15 employees, but now it's just the two of us - and we're enjoying that. It's a lot simpler," Steve Hov said.

"We were operating as Hov Sign Company, but we thought about it and figured not everyone knew the name 'Hov' but everyone in the area knew the name 'Rainier' so we opted to do a change to 'Rainier Sign Company'."

Work is still in progress on the 2400 sq. ft. building located at 74232 Columbia River Hwy, Rainier. A mid to late August opening is anticipated.

Doors will be open for drop-in customers from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m. or by appointment.
