WARRENTON - North Coast residents can be heroes for the tiniest babies by joining the 34th annual WalkAmerica, a benefit for the March of Dimes.

The 10K walk starts at 9 a.m. May 8 at Fort Stevens State Park. Money raised through WalkAmerica will fund research and programs to save premature babies.

Registration forms are available at Bank of America, Bank of Astoria, U.S. Bank and Sterling Savings Bank locations. You can also register online at WalkAmerica.org or by calling Meeyoung Lepore at (800) 811-0805.

The 2004 WalkAmerica goal for the North Coast is $12,000. In order to reach this goal, March of Dimes volunteers encourage all walkers to set a personal goal of $200 or more.

WalkAmerica is sponsored nationally by CIGNA, Kmart, Famous Footwear, and the Discovery Health Channel. Local sponsors include Seaside Factory Outlet Center, Bank of Astoria, Weyerhaeuser, Seaside Chamber of Commerce, Georgia Pacific, First Tech Credit Union, KeyBank, Standard Insurance Company, Regence BlueCross BlueShield of Oregon and Farmers Insurance Group.
