The Silver Salmon Grille in downtown Astoria has finished an extensive remodeling of its lounge, and will be hosting a grand opening event Wednesday from 5 to 8 p.m. where guests will have an opportunity to taste some newly released wines.
The lounge's ceiling was raised six feet to highlight the vintage 1880s back bar. New chandeliers, a tile floor, furnishings, a window and an arched door on the corner of Commercial Street were added. Part of the lounge is used for wine tasting, retail wine sales and a gift shop.
Twelve wines can be tasted and purchased, all from the Silver Salmon Cellars winery and bottled at Maryhill Winery. Local artist Bill Dodge painted the original work for the front label, which includes Astoria landmarks like the Astoria Column and the Astoria Bridge.
The restaurant is now smoke-free, and video poker machines are in a separate room, also smoke-free.
